Allen Temple Church of God in Christ

In the early 1930s, the church was born in an old wooden house in this
community. Its original name was Apostolic Holiness Church under the
leadership of the late Elder Ware. Elder Ware later joined in fellowship with the
Church of God in Christ, and the church became the East Side Church of God in
Christ. In 1937, Elder James Manor appointed Elder T.M. Allen ( Wife Lena ) to
pastor East side COGIC. Charles Knox was the first Deacon and Mother Tanner
was the first Church Mother. The First Secretary was Sister Pinkard Standford.
Some of the first members were: Ida Mae Wilson-Johnson, Huey Ming, Arrie
Brown, Willie Mae Jackson, Anna B. Jackson, Mildred Ming, Owen Garrett, Cindy
Showers, Flora Lee Reynolds, Elder Reynolds, Elder James Mcleod, Ethel Mae
Watson, and many more. The anointed sound of a rub-board , tin tub, and big
single-hand bass drum aroused curiosity in the local community and the church
grew.
After years passed, repairs on the First sanctuary ( second church building )
were needed; J.C. Jackson suggested a new sanctuary. The congregation agreed
and the saints of the Most High God began preparing funds and themselves for
the task set before them. Since the members did not want the church to be
relocated , the little wooden church was sectioned off bit by bit and
construction began. Half the church was under construction while the other half
of the church was used to worship and glorify God in the beauty of holiness.
Many of our men with limited education were licensed carpenters, and
craftsmen who were anointed to build a godly structure . Men such as Deacons
Lennie Smith, Charles Knox, and J.C. Jackson; Elders Lloyd Ward and James
Brown; Brothers Lawson Smith , Benjamin Smith, Richard Hill, Roosevelt Rose,
and others. The new sanctuary was complete in early 1960’s.
Pastor Allen appointed Elder Lloyd Ward ( wife Jeannie) as Assistant Pastor.
Upon Elder Wards death, Elder J.C. Jackson was appointed as Associate Pastor.
Ultimately, East Side COGIC became Allen Temple Church of God in Christ. Elder
Tim M. Allen faithfully pastored Allen Temple for over 30 years. As his health
deteriorated, he became unable to travel from Mobile, Al ( his home ) to Dothan
, Al. Elder J.C. Jackson led the church as Associate Pastor until the passing of
Elder Allen.

In 1974, Elder W.S. Harris ( The Humming Bird ) became the Pastor of Allen
Temple. Elder W.S. Harris was later elevated to the Jurisdictional Prelate of
Alabama 2 nd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction; Bishop Harris continued serving as Allen
Temple’s Pastor for 25 years. In the late 1990’s he became ill and unable to
travel. Elder J.C. Jackson continued to serve faithfully as Associate Pastor until
he passed. Elder L..C. Ming then became Associate Pastor of Allen Temple and
when Bishop Harris passed , Elder Ming became Pastor. After several years of
being Pastor, the church split and Elder Ming began a new ministry .
Superintendent M. Earl Pulliam ( Wife Dorothy ) then became Allen Temple’s
interim pastor and served faithfully for almost one year. His leadership laid the
foundation for a more organized ministry. In 2004 Elder J.C. Rogers ( wife
Juanita) was appointed Pastor of Allen Temple . He carried out the next phase
by re-uniting members after a division in the church family had occurred. July
10, 2009 Elder Rodgers resigned as Pastor and now devotes his full attention as
Pastor of Florala COGIC.
July 10, 2009 Elder Joseph W. Pace, Sr. ( Wife Rosa ) was appointed interim
Pastor of Allen Temple . November 27, 2010, Elder Joseph W. Pace, Sr. became
Pastor. Under his leadership the church improved in many areas. He resigned on
March 31,2012.
After the previous Pastor resignation , Superintendent M. Earl Pulliam, Sr. was
asking to return to Allen Temple. Upon his agreement, he served as interim
Pastor for 4 months, on July 24,2012 he became Pastor.
God has given a vision for Allen Temple to Pastor Pulliam. The vision has been
embraced by Allen Temple’s church family. In order to fulfill the vision, we are
striving daily through prayer and fasting to seize the moments, and fulfill the
individual purposes that God has set before each and every one of us . Our
Pastor is enjoying every moment of it. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
